1.Use first quality products.
2. Creams penetrate hide more easily.
3. Colour of the cream must be the same of shoes.
4. The small brushes must be made of natural, soft and high bristles: they polish more.
5. Do not use too much cream.Cream must go into hide’s holes but must not fill them up. An excess of fat doesn’t let hide breathe.
6. Avoid covering and self-polishing liquids: they can accelerate the work but they risk to spoil shoes covering them with a waterproof crust which dries them and is difficult to eliminate.
7. Little brushes must be used only for the same colour of polish.
8. After a dozen of polishings shoes must be absolutely degreased, using products based on trichloroethylene. The following day they must be polished.
9. Water marks on the vamp must be removed using a special liquid and a little brush .Let them dry up on their shoe-tree. Remove dirt before with a hard brush only when shoe is dry. If there are residual stains it is useful to remove them with a moistened little brush and very little neutral soap.
10. For chamois leather use a soft brush ( on the contrary of what you usually do ), pencil eraser and para rubber. A good method is the preventive one: use waterproof spray .A thin protective layer so that hide breathes.
What you need :
Little brushes with bristles, shoe-cloth to apply polish, cloth for polishing((synthetic),creams.Pencil eraser, para rubber, liquid to remove rain stain, waterproof spray, degreasing liquid, brush of hard bristles for cleaning (silky umbrella’s lining).
How: with a little bristled brush put a bit of polish in difficult points (seams, trimmings….) Remove then residual polish.Soak a little cloth in alcohol then dip it in the polish and apply it on shoe with rotation without pressing. Then use soft brush before in a direction and then in the other one. Pass finally the soft cloth (experts can then use umbrella’s silk).
